There are several applications that a chiropractor can use as far as treatments go, especially with new-found research and new treatment modalities. One modality that we use, with great results, is the Class IV Laser therapy or “High Intensity Laser Therapy,” which is considered a “hot laser.” It is becoming more popular every day as more clinics are adding it to their treatment protocols. Class IV Laser is a non-surgical and non-invasive technique used to treat many conditions, including acute or chronic injuries, arthritis, stiffness, and pain.
How does it work? It is a near infrared laser that produces energy, called photons, that penetrate the body where the beam is focused at a depth that depends on the wavelength of laser beam. Class IV laser will increase metabolic activity that helps transport nutrients across the cell membrane. This will stimulate the production of ATP, which is the main source of energy for cellular processing, thus accelerate the healing. Typically, a single laser therapy will take about 3 minutes to apply. During treatment you will feel a warming sensation, as it should feel painless right where the laser is being focused. You may not feel much at all, but you should expect to see results at about 12 hours post-treatment.
This is a cost-effective treatment that offers benefits such as decreasing inflammation, muscle and joint relief, increased blood circulation, and accelerated tissue repair and cell growth. Class IV laser works especially well with ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff strains/tears and nerve conditions. This application can be used on men and women of all ages. Combining laser therapy with manual treatment will help us get you better, faster!
